HOLY CROSS WOMEN'S ORGANIZATIONS

Lutheran World Relief Quilters
The LWR Quilters assemble quilts to be distributed by Lutheran World Relief to refugees and other people in need overseas. These quilts may become a shelter from the sun or protections from the cold. Often times they are used as a bed, a room divider, a backpack to carry belongings, or even a burial shroud. Each quilt is one of a kind made from donations of old sheets, fabric samples and remnants or pieces of new fabric. Some workers cut or sew the blocks, others pin or tile quilt tops to bottoms for finishing. Some ladies who are unable to come to the workshops sew the quilt tops at home. No experience is necessary and everyone is welcome to come and assist where they wish while enjoying Christian fellowship. The quilters meet in the Fellowship Hall every 2nd & 4th Monday of the month from 9:30am – 2:00pm. The Quilters welcome any and all donations of fabric (old sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths, napkins, material scraps, etc.) - even old curtains. They are also always in need of sewing thread - any color but especially white. Please drop you donations off in the box located near the Welcome Center.

Christian Women’s Circle
The Holy Cross Christian Women’s Circle (C.W.C.) meets the 1st Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm. We open our meetings with prayer and a devotion and then move on to the topics at hand. The goals of our organization are:

Spiritual Growth – Service – Outreach – Social Interaction

We host several activities throughout the year such as our yearly Indoor Yard Sale in May, a July dinner, and our Advent Tea in December. We also help beautify our church grounds by maintaining a flower bed in front of the church. We participate in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League’s activities throughout the year as well as the National Day of Prayer and the Life Chain of Metro Detroit which occurs in conjunction with the National Life Chain. If you have any questions about C.W.C. and/or it’s activities please contact the church office.

Altar Guild
Our Altar Guild consists of ten teams with 2-3 members on each team. The teams rotate on a numerical basis. Our main duty is to have our Lord’s house clean and beautiful for our worship services. We fill candles, dust and vacuum, water and trim plants and keep all altar items in place and clean. We strive to have the altar prepared for the pastor. We follow the liturgical church year and change the paraments and banners as needed.

Our teams plan their cleaning times convenient for them, usually working between Friday and Saturday morning. The work takes approximately 1-2 hours.

Our faith-work is extremely self-rewarding, not to mention how beautiful our place of work is! If you are interested in joining the Altar Guild or have a question, please call Donna Kaip at
248-545-1737.

Ladies Guild
The Holy Cross Ladies Guild has been active at Holy Cross for over twenty years. Their main purpose is service-oriented.
For example:

• Each year the Ladies Guild helps support a seminary student. The student is picked by Concordia University each September and the Guild provides monetary as well as spiritual support of the student.

• At specific times during the year the Guild donates new pajamas, underwear and Christmas gifts to Lutheran Child & Family Services for the children in foster homes. Several of our members attend the monthly LCFS meetings.

• Our Lutheran Women’s Missionary League representative attends the League’s meetings and reports back to the Guild with news and information. At various time of the year we make requests of the congregation members for soap, blankets and clothing for the Lutheran World Relief Organization who then distributes these items to needy countries all over the world. This year fifty quilts have been made by our Lutheran World Relief Quilters to be donated to the Relief efforts.

• We prepare and serve funeral luncheons for those families who request them.

• Each year we assist with Holy Cross’ annual New Member Dinner Reception which is held in January or February.

• Once a year the Birmingham Pastor’s Circuit meets at Holy Cross and we provide a brunch for the pastors attending.

• We host and serve social dinners several times a year.

• We occasionally have various (and we hope, interesting) fundraisers to help defray our operating costs.

We also take part in other church activities as they arise. You don’t have to be involved in all or even any of the activities to be a Guild member. We would enjoy having you come to a meeting and getting to know you. The Ladies Guild meets the first Tuesday of the month (except July & August) at 1:00pm.
