MUSIC AT HOLY CROSS Many
good things are happening with the Holy Cross Music Ministry. New groups
are forming and existing groups are growing. Take the time to look
over the different program descriptions and consider how you might become
involved in the program of music at Holy Cross. Might it be playing
an instrument? Would you like to join the Adult Choir? How about a short-term
choir like the Women’s Chorus? Maybe you’re interested in
the Handbells or the flute chorus…or maybe your involvement will
be to provide financial support. Whatever the interest, Holy Cross is
attempting to develop ways for you to be involved. If you have an interest
not mentioned here please contact the Music Director so we can continue
to provide opportunities for the many members of Holy Cross with musical
abilities. The Choral Program
The Choral program at Holy Cross Lutheran Church provides for participation
in various ways. The Adult Choir is the primary choir of the church, participating
in worship twice a month and for all major festivals during the year.
In additional the choir presents Lessons and Carols every other year.
The choir is open to all members high school age and older. Currently
the choir numbers approximately 25 voices. Our goal is to increase the
size of the choir to 35. Won’t you join us? One only needs the love
of singing to participate, all the rest is provided in rehearsals. Our
rehearsals are on Thursdays from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m.
The
Handbell Program
Another important part of the music ministry is the Handbell Choir. This
choir participates in worship twice a month and at special services throughout
the year. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm – 7:15
pm.
What qualification do I need to participate?
- A love of music
- A desire to be a vital member of a group
- A commitment to regular rehearsal attendance
- A very basic knowledge of music (being able to count to 4 is
helpful!?)
As
this area of the Music Program expands the need for additional sets
of handbells also expands.
Currently there are enough people interested
in handbells for us to consider purchasing an additional octave of bells.
The cost can range from $1,500 to $2,000. Donations and Memorials may
be designated “Handbells” and directed to the Music Fund.
The Instrumental Program
Instrumental opportunities exist in the church as well. The Holy Cross
Brass is an ongoing group of brass players that plays primarily at festival
services during the year. We are always looking for new members. If you
played trumpet, trombone, horn, tuba, or any other brass instrument in
the past and would like to play again, contact the Music Ministry Director,
Peter Paselk. Woodwinds (including saxophones) are welcomed too! If you play the flute why not be apart of our Flute Chorus. This newly
formed group meets for rehearsal throughout the season and plays at various
services. Currently we have 3 flautists. Why not dust off the flute and
give this group a try.
